The Statement Bomber

statement bomberBOMBER JACKET / RIBBED TIE-SLEEVE LS TEE (under $30!) / DENIM /MINI MARCIE CROSSBODY SUEDE MULES / MARBLE SUNNIES

I’m admittedly on a jacket kick again. I mean, if you’re not dying to trade in your anoraks and pea coats for bombers and leather, you’re either a) one lucky biatch who lives somewhere warm or b) just weird.

But really – I’ve been so into the statement bomber lately and when I came across this unique piece from Blank NYC, I fell in love with the grommet detailing. It has an olive green lining which is not usually my choice of color but the soft satin makes for a really cozy piece of outerwear.

To accentuate the silver, I paired it with this fun ribbed tie-sleeve top from Lavish Alice.

I did some digging into the history of bombers and came out with some pretty cool facts that I thought I’d share!

For starters, this trend actually didn’t start as a trend at all. The bomber jacket, also referred to as the MA-1, came into the military scene around 1950. Adapted from the B-15 jacket, the ‘new’ MA-1 bomber ditched the traditional fur collar for a knit collar, primarily because the fur got in the way of pilots’ parachute harnesses. Though we see a range of materials in today’s bombers, the original jacket was made of nylon to keep dry.

Through the years, the bomber started to appear outside of the military and eventually made its way to Hollywood in films like The Hunter or Indiana Jones where it became a fashion statement. Fast forward to today, and you’ve got the ‘it’ piece that everyone is dying to have in their Spring wardrobe!

Despite the fact that I love bombers I’ve never thought about why they’re named just that so thanks for the history lesson. And no, I’m not being ironic as I love history and I’m somewhat ashamed I didn’t know this particular one. As for that piece you’re wearing, it’s an amazing combination of modern and classic and a real statement piece!

Or B) just weird. 😂 Seriously, you are so right! Leather and bombers are by far the greatest pieces in life. They always make the perfect statement, but never overdo an outfit. This one is absolutely stunning, and I’m a smidge salty you are introducing us to all these amazing jackets. My bank account is not too happy haha. Love how you styled it with those killer peep-toe booties! So obsessed. The grey will be so perfect for Spring.
