Scarves for Fall Styled 2 Ways

It's officially official - scarf season has landed. While I make use out of my scarves all year long, Fall is when I really break them out and start getting the most use out of them.

I love this transitional time because it's still warm enough to style silk scarves and lighter fabrics. Come late Fall, early Winter, I'm basically Lenny Kravitz in his mega scarf for the next 3 months.

The best thing about square scarves is that they're versatile. I use them as hair ties, neck ties, bag ties, you name it.

Today, I'm sharing 2 ways to style a scarf for Fall, along with some of my favorite pieces for the season.

Western Style

The Western style is one of the major Fall trends we're seeing right now, and while normally we'd think boots and button ups, why not scarves? This style looks best with a v-neck or a scoop neck style top and is a great alternative to a necklace with a top like the one I'm wearing.

To tie your square scarf, lay it flat and fold it diagonally, making a triangle shape. Then, starting at the straight end of the triangle opposite the point, fold your scarf in 1-2" sections, until you've rolled it all the way up. Place the middle of the scarf on the front of your neck, wrapping it once around the back; then bring it back to the front and secure it with a small knot.

After mine is tied, I'll usually use my hands to pull on the edges and loosen the neck until comfortable.

Long + Flowy

I'm the first one to want to grab a hat as an accessory, but I've been trying to switch it up a bit lately and have loved using my scarves as hair ties. The half up style with the long scarf is such an elegant look. Also a great way to add some color to your outfit if you're like me and tend to gravitate more towards neutrals in the Fall.

To secure your scarf in your hair, lay it flat and fold it diagonally, rolling it up from straight line to point just as with the Western style above. Secure your hair first with a clear elastic, and then thread one end of your scarf through and knot it. Threading it through helps keep it from sliding down because materials like silk or satin tend to slip easily out of your hair.

Alternatively, if you can find a scarf pony you love, you can skip the clear elastic all together. Free People has a great selection right now!

Love LOVE the scarf in hair … you pull it off so well. When it comes to me, they would just slip down. Love the photography, as always.

Thanks love! That’s why you have to use my trick with the clear elastic! 🙂
