My Honest Opinion About the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

4 honest words to describe the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale...

Unimpressed + overwhelmed, as always.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale comes around once a year (learn more about it in this post) and it feels like Groundhog Day watching the masses of bloggers with their 4' long receipts, endless try-on hauls and 3x-a-week posts over the course of the sale. Yet, here I am bringing you just that...a post about the damn sale.

Here's the thing...the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is not the end-all-be-all of sales. That being said, if you're looking to shop, and you're looking to shop discounted, it's a great sale to take advantage of.

I checked out with 6 total items in my cart (see them below), and will maaaaybe take another peek in a few weeks once public access opens up and a few more items are released. There are some good finds, and fewer great finds, which is why I don't recommend going crazy just to get the latest trend that blogger X recommends.

The items rounded up below are my honest favorites, and there aren't a lot! If you choose to shop the sale, recommendations are great and can be incredibly helpful, but stay true to your style and what you know you'll be excited to pull out of your closet and wear for the first time come Fall, because the last thing you want is to end up with a closet full of shit you'll never wear and a dent in your bank account 2 months from now! Seriously.

What I Bought...

Tops

I found maybe 5 that I could see adding to my cart (the 3 below included!). I'm not a huge fan of piling up on a ton of basics during the sale because to be honest, a lot of my basics are cheap as it is and don't come from Nordstrom. I'm not into the lace-up camis or the plain tees - if I'm shopping this sale, I want stand-out pieces for my wardrobe. This Free People sweater looks super comfy (love the light blue color) and I'm a sucker for a cute graphic tee..this one by J.Crew is under $30.

Topshop Colorblock Knit
$44.90 ($68 after sale)

Topshop Elbow Sleeve Turtleneck
$15.90 ($25 after sale)

Halogen Ruffle Neck Sweater
$49.90 ($79 after sale)

Denim

Another tough category for the sale (but I guess good for me because you guys know I love my denim and it'd probably fill my cart otherwise). Added these BLANK NYC crops to my cart, which are a great, standard medium wash that will go with virtually anything. BLANK is one of my favorite denim brands - super comfortable and long-wearing, if you haven't tried them out yet! Also love these Paige slim jeans, which are a higher price point but a great brand to purchase during the sale while the price is lowered.

BLANK NYC Madison Straight Leg Crop
$58.80 ($88 after sale)

Madewell 10" High-Waisted Skinnies
$89.90 ($135 after sale)

Madewell Oversize Denim Jacket
$84.90 ($128 after sale)

Outerwear

Probably the sale category I was most impressed with; I found quite a few jackets that caught my eye. Of course, I love my neutrals (splurged on this Ralph Lauren moto because I am OBSESSED), but I also love the brighter colors for this season. My advice if you're eyeing a color is to only buy it if you really love it and could see yourself wearing it a year from now. Also love (but totally don't need) this gorgeous teddy coat and this mauve pink shearling jacket.

Ralph Lauren Faux Shearling Jacket
$186.90 ($280 after sale)

Levi's Moto Jacket
$119.90 ($180 after sale)

Topshop Knit Back Midi Coat
$82.90 ($125 after sale)

Shoes

I never considered myself a lover of shoes until that one day I looked in my closet(s) and realized they had completely taken over. Especially loving the color of these Steve Madden sock booties. I had originally had the black in my cart, but ultimately decided to switch it up with this colorful neutral. Also love this classic ankle boot by Botkier and this Rebecca Minkoff mule with the most subtle studded detail.

Steve Madden Sock Bootie
$86.90 ($129.95 after sale)

Sam Edelman Caprice Knee High Boot
$149.90 ($224.95 value)

Marc Fisher Miggi Bootie
$124.90 ($188.95 value)

Converse Chuck Taylor Platform
$46.90 ($70 after sale)

Marc Fisher Yente Chelsea Boot
$129.90 ($198.95 value)

Botkier Natalie Bootie
$124.90 ($187.95 value)

So true! I was actually underwhelmed this year as well. I found myself more impressed by all the beauty items than anything else, surprisingly!

Same here – and I typically never invest in the beauty section of the sale. Some great deals though!

I was actually really impressed this year. I like the pieces included a lot more than last year. Although I will say the shoe department and handbags were a disappointment.

I bought those Steve Madden sock booties in the rust color and I can’t wait for them to arrive. I also got the color block sweater because I couldn’t resist the color combo.
