A few months back, thanks so some inspo from Emily of Cupcakes & Cashmere, I wrote a post about my personal beauty philosophy. It’s so interesting how much we all differ from each other when it comes to our routines. While I swear by spending on my hair color each month, I’m sure some of you haven’t spent a dime on coloring your hair, ever!
This week, I want to introduce you to Britt of Britt Behind the Scenes. In addition to looking flawless around the clock and working as a blogger, Britt is a freelance bridal makeup artist, so needless to say she can teach us a thing or two about beauty! Today she’s sharing her beauty philosophy with us!
Foundation & Skin Care ($75-$100/ Every few months):
As a beauty lover and a bridal freelance makeup artist, it’s important to make sure my kit is up to date. For me, I will spend the most money on foundation and skincare. Unfortunately,I have some redness and uneven skin tone that requires coverage for foundation. I prefer a liquid foundation that is not only going to cover, but last all day. My hands down, no-fail product is the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I use this on all my brides for a flawless finish. It’s a beautiful, satin finish that lasts 15-hours! Looking for a lighter version that still lasts? Check out their Double Wear Light Foundation. As for concealer favorites, it’s worth spending your money on Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Concealer. I used to use Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, and love it, but the Urban Decay does not crease as bad for me! Both are wonderful products that truly cover dark circles and imperfections.
I think skincare is so important! I always use an undereye and face serum at night. My favorite line is the Advanced Night Repair serums from Estee Lauder. I literally notice a difference in the morning if I don’t use it! My skin is brightened, and my skin tone is more even. As for my under eyes, I suffer from terrible dark circles. Their eye serum does the trick for me. I have been using their serums two years, and see a noticeable difference in my skin clarity with continued use! As for daily eye creams, I use Clinique’s All About Eyes Rich Eye Cream in the morning and I top with Origin’s GinZing Refreshing Eye Creamwhich brightens the eye. This is perfect right under makeup. It’s an instant wake up!
Last but not least, skincare wouldn’t be complete without talking about my Clarisonic. I use my Mia 1 about once a week for a deep cleanse on my skin. I know some people use it daily, but I don’t find that necessary. I would also suggest using the sensitive brush head to start with. I debated a long time about buying the Clarisonic, since it is expensive. I can promise you it’s worth the money! My skin looks brand new after use. Just make sure to moisturize right after! P.S. I remember using it on my husband once, and his skin was glowing so much that he even requests to use it on occasion! He would kill me if he knew I shared that (haha)!
Nails ($35-$45/Every couple of months):
I used to get gel polish on my fingernails. I absolutely loved how it looked, but unfortunately it thinned my nails down quite a bit. I have weak nails to begin with, so that didn’t help! With that said, I’ve been doing my own nails so I don’t feel too bad when I buy a new polish! I’m an Essie and OPI girl all the way. I’ve started to buy the strengthening polishes, and when I have time, I use a top coat. As for my toes, I’m a pedicure girl at heart. Nothing is getting in the way of me and that massage chair! Here are some of my all-time favorite polish colors!
Face Wash ($10/ Every few months):
Honestly, I think there are so many wonderful gentle cleansers that you can find at the drugstore. Neutrogena is hands down a favorite for me. I use two of their products for face washing. For when I’m in the shower removing makeup, their Gentle Foaming Cleanserdoes the trick. Even with full on makeup, it manages to remove everything! For under $5, it’s a steal. For removing makeup quickly at night or without a sink, I love their face wipes. They remove every bit of makeup!
Bath Bomb’s ($10/Every couple of months):
My life changed when my friend Katelyn told me about Lush Cosmetics Bath Bombs. Seriously, not only are they affordable, but these things are luxurious! The best part is that their products are 100% Vegan! Want your skin to be completely moisturized and as smooth as a baby’s bottom? Try their Butterball Bath Bomb. Want a swirl of pink and purple bathwater while smelling like jasmine? Check out Sex Bomb. There are so many options and they make fabulous gifts! Remember what I said about my husband and the Clarisonic? Same thing goes for the bath bombs. He secretly loves them! Okay, I’m done telling on my hubby!
Hair ($75/Every few months):
For me, I want a one-stop shop when it comes to a haircut and style. I want to have my color and cut done all at the same place. I wish I could say my hair was luscious and thick and hardly needed any upkeep, but that’s not the case. For my wedding in April, I tried to grow my hair out for a year. Needless to say, I was ready for a chop after the wedding. My hair is simply not meant to be long!
Six inches later, and a whole lot of blonde added, I felt like a new woman! To keep my blonde bright, my stylist recommended using a purple shampoo once a week. I love the Joico Color Balance Purple Shampoo. It really helps with the brassiness! As for conditioner, I’m a Biolage fan at heart. Their Ultra Hydrasource Conditioner is life-changing. It somehow replenishes the moisture with aloe vera, but doesn’t weigh it down. It’s a must try for treated hair! Last but not least, I use a leave in conditioner. I love It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-in Product. I spray it on towel dried hair and use a wide tooth comb to brush my hair. It’s always perfectly detangled! Here’s a picture of my new do!
Mascaras ($25/Every few months):
I just did a recent post on my favorite mascaras. I feel like it’s so overwhelming to know what to choose, especially at the drugstore! At least in Sephora or Ulta, you can physically see the brush! As for favorite options, I do have a few drugstore favorites, but also love some high end ones. I find that I want to try more high-end mascaras than I do drugstore options. For drugstore, my hands down favorite is the L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara. It thickens and lengthens all at once. Plus, adding a second coat is a breeze since the formula isn’t overly wet or drying. I found this from my mom as she has used it for years. It’s a winner in my book too! As for high end, my favorite is still Better Than Sex Mascara by Too Faced. If you are looking for full volume, crazy explode lashes, then this is it!
There you have it! My spend, save and depends breakdown!
Hi everyone! I am joining from Indianapolis, Indiana!
favorite thing about living in Indianapolis:
Although Indiana winters can be brutal, I absolutely love that we have all four seasons! Growing up in Indiana, the fall season is hands down my favorite. After graduating from Purdue University, I moved to Indianapolis and have been there for four years. My husband and I love that you can experience both the country and the city life, all in one convenient location!

how and why did you start blogging?:
I started blogging over three years ago as a hobby. I have always loved to write and also had an interest in beauty and fashion. Even with a full time job and blogging on the side, it’s easy to spend time on it because I’m passionate about it. I love being a resource for others, especially in the beauty area! I do freelance bridal makeup, so it’s natural for me to want to share details!
Peanut butter ice cream, peonies, the TV show called “Younger”, Double Wear Foundation by Estee Lauder, oh and I can’t forget a Starbucks iced coffee with milk, sweetened!
