WHEN DID YOU START YOUR BLOG?
I started my blog in early 2016. At the time, I had recently made the decision to end my career as an elementary teacher, move back to New York, and start fresh. In hindsight, as scary as it was, it was the best decision I ever made. My love for writing coupled with a knack for web design led me to create a WordPress account one day on a whim. I had no idea what I was doing (and to be honest, I still don't have it all figured out), but I learned as I went, and well - here I am.
WHO TAKES YOUR PHOTOS?
My incredibly talented photographer, Angelene, takes the majority of my photos. When our schedules don't match up, my husband Joe shoots for me. Joe actually used to shoot all of my content before I started working with Angelene! He has absolutely no experience in photography, but with some direction, was able to learn pretty quickly.
HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR PHOTOS?
DO YOU WEAR EXTENSIONS?
I don't! I get asked this question a lot because I have long, thick hair. I think the key to maintaining this naturally is to really put an effort into taking care of your hair and minimizing damage. You can read more about how I keep my hair routine consistent with my favorite products here, and how I style my go-to beachy waves here.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR NEWER BLOGGERS?
There is so much advice out there and I honestly don't think that what I say holds any merit over what any other seasoned blogger would say. I can only speak from personal experience and my three biggest pieces of advice are:
1 / Stay consistent (specifically, when it comes to content production and branding)
2 / Go after what you want. Don't ever wait for something to fall in your lap.
3 / Submit to finding your own path, instead of following someone else's. More often than not, you'll feel like you don't know what you're doing, and you will make mistakes; but finding what speaks to you, personally, and sticking to that will contribute wholeheartedly to your growth.
HOW DO YOU GROW YOUR INSTAGRAM?
My number one piece of advice on growing your social media, is to stop worrying about growing your social media. I know, I know - it sounds counterintuitive; but the more you worry about reaching a certain amount of followers, the more you'll stray away from being true to yourself and your brand. I will never say that numbers aren't important, because they are, but getting there is not supposed to happen overnight. Focus on consistently producing quality content and genuinely engaging with your followers. Posting just to post is counterproductive for your brand - there should always be some kind of content creation involved with an end goal in mind.
